Guns, Guns, Guns.

Movie: Act of Valor

The title says it all, these means more guns, big guns, and a lot of killing and action. Just like what I've said on my previous post "le like wars" and yes i do. A friend told me about this movie and he said he thinks I'll love it. From the moment I saw the trailer, I googled some torrents and start downloading it. For some reason I am a fan of war, and i don't know why.

Special thanks to Dan Dasal for introducing this awesome movie. HAHA (ou pre feel ko naging sundalo ako)

Background/ Summary of the clip.

This is the part were the Navy Seals was chased down by the bad guys due to a rescue operation that was compromised. A Seals shouts "water" three times to warn his teammates that they are going for a dead end. After hitting the water and a few gunshot and thinking all hope is gone, suddenly a 2 Gunboats appeared from nowhere and start harassing the enemy with gunfire. This gives the Seals cover and an extraction.

 Analysis:

The first time I watched this, I felt that i was part of the movie. There are a lot of POV shots that looks like you are really holding a gun and you are inside a suite of a soldier. In this part the shots used was a great turn over, the feeling started as a negative then suddenly it strikes into a positive. 0:8-10 sec of the clip shows the car hit the river, 0:8 tell, or portrays that you are likely inside of the car. It gives the audience the illusion of being you as the character.

I notice on this part shows more "superiority" or "power". There were some shots that, if you actually think or analyze it well, it was a POV and a low angle shot at the same time. In our discussions low angle gives the subject the big picture, meaning power and authority.

0:21-22, This shot was from a long shot then suddenly it turns into a mid shot focusing on the gun. Focusing on a big gun means power. 0:23-24 low angle shot seeing the head of the soldier and the swooping boat behind him. If you notice the boat drifts to make it closer to the camera which making it Big. It portrays again power and the whole shot symbolizes that hope has come..

Another great shot that I like is the aerial shot of the 2 boats harassing the enemy in the river bank, it gives the 2 boats the focus and the shot gives the viewers a big picture what is happening. It makes the clip "maangaas" in a way.

Backfire.

In my opinion, the significance of film is to send a deeper message using this medium. Some movies intend to make us realize something about the world that we must do, protect, or to give responsibility to something. I see sometimes in films that they show something not only the essence of drama, comedy and action but the values or the things that would make you do something different or would make a change.

What makes a movie appealing for me is the, concept, and twist, where people can understand it easy. For example the movie "The Avengers", it has a good concept of action and comedy, i personally like how the story goes, it's not pure action where superheroes just fights an invasions. Even in the most crucial parts where some of the heroes will die, it has the part where you will laugh.

A good movie for me has these elements, good concept, and good twist, and for me it makes me watch it.

End.

Practicality

The last story that we tackled on was Love in the Cornhusk by Aida Rivera-Ford and the "Summer Solstice". Both stories talks about more on relationships and love.

My blog is about the issue of practicality in relationships and mostly in marriage. In our last discussion, we discussed the ending of the story "Love in the Cornhusks". A lot of us are confused of, who is the father of Tinang's baby. was it the bagobo or her last lover? Out of this i thought of the sense of "practicality" if ever the baby's father is Tinang's past lover, Amado.

What is the right thing to do about this kind of issues? To find another guy for the sake of having your baby a father or, going through life just you and your child.

This is a very an open topic, some would say it depends on what is the status of the women, of she has a baby and has no job, well maybe practically she would go look for a husband, some would say that you don't need a husband. For me practicality is one of the best thing to do in this kind of situation. You must do anything in order to survive, well having the case of Tina she chose the baby rather her lover.

Practicality in marriage is basically not getting married because of some issues like having a child to early, money issues and other stuffs.
It is more on the roles of each other.

For me it still depends on what is your current status.

2nd Blog Post : Between Families of different culture

The last two short stories, Manuel Arguilla's How My Brother Leon Brought Home A Wife and Francisco Arcellana's The Mats involve what one might term "traditional" Filipino families. Both were also written before World War II.
Choose at least one of the following writing guidelines for your blog post:
1. Pick out one or more common themes or elements from both stories. Discuss what interests you about this/these themes or elements. Do they still occur/exist in the context of the modern family?
2. Compare and contrast the dynamics or relations between families then and now, or between families of different cultures.

For either topic, you will need to draw on relevant materials, such as news articles, blog entries, online videos, advertising, trends, threads and conversations, etc. to prove your point.
Your opinions and insights are important in the grading of this assignment, but don't forget to cite or link to your sources/references.

What i think.

Filipinos back then lived a simple life, normal and the usual. Father goes to work, mother watch over the house, kids go to school basically, normal routine for a family. Back then fortunate one can go to great  schools, the poor ones are on the public ones. The way they communicate is one of the big difference in our time. Back then cellphones are not in the line. Comparing the families back then lived, they lived simple, In our time, family would like to have this and that. Filipinos now somehow could not be contended on what they
have. Kids back then after the occupation started to grow differently. After the WW2 our nation suffer much losses and we got poorer. But still, the values that we have learned stayed.

I referred my Blog to this other blog that i have read. some points that i used are in his blog.

Carlo Bulosan .. Some pride

For me one of the great image that represent our country as of today is Charice Pempengco. The first thing i noticed about her is obviously she's a Filipino, but when she started her career as a pop idol living in the U.S my thoughts of her change.. Filipino pride takes on who we are, what we do, basically giving pride on what can we do as Filipinos. In my opinion Charice nailed this, she clearly can talk in english, can sing well and yes, she can go head on to the top. some singers in the US was blown away because on what she can do. Small but terrible as they says.. She declares something that most of us will do as Filipino's..

Never back Down..  walang atrasan.

She clearly give us the idea that even she's that small, she can go head on to be with the top and th elites.
